Lanzarote Super-X World Cup 2006
Like in 2005 the only Super-X world cup for women took place on Lanzarote. Last year I was able to win here – but I knew that I would face very tough competition from the other girls this year. When we started the weather forecast was very good: light wind for the first two days – and then getting stronger every day afterwards. Unfortunately the wind never properly filled in. We managed to do 10 races in the 5 competition days but most of them just in minimum winds.

It’s been an exciting and intense competition as the top five girls were racing very closely together. Everybody scored some perfect runs over the obstacle course – and everybody made mistakes and had at least a couple crashes over the “sausages” and in the duck jibes.

A Super-X race probably just lasts 4 minutes but it is tough work and you always arrive completely exhausted on the finishing line – especially in light winds when you have to pump to get planning after each move again.

Personally I had a pretty bad start as I caught some virus just before the event. Therefore the first day of this event was kind of a disaster for me already.  After that I started feeling better and better and gave my best to catch up. After 10 races I found myself in a safe second place. Looking back I would have had a real good chance to win this title again. My equipment was just working perfect! Just sometimes fortune is not on your side…
